Westfield, IN Area Guide

Only 20 miles north of Indianapolis, Westfield is a growing community in Hamilton County with an estimated population of 24,000, included in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area. Westfield has grown both economically and socially, enjoying an excellent school system and national recognition, attracting newcomers to the area. Offering a positive quality of life, Westfield is known for possessing the feel and charm of a small town while enjoying the amenities of the big city.

History

In May of 1834, Asa Bales, Nathan Park and Ambrose Osborne laid out the city of Westfield. Westfield has a Quaker background and became prosperous for three reasons: they established one of the first schools in the area, were anti-slavery and became an important station on the Underground Railroad. Dedicating themselves to the hard work of building a city, the people of Westfield have historically shown a sense of caring and community concern.

Incorporated on New Year’s Day, 2008, Westfield has grown by leaps and bounds, planning a revamp of downtown, with new buildings and annexation in the southern part of the city ( Washington Township).
